Teeth Whitening
Whitening, supervised by the dentist
Coffee, tea, teh tarik and time all dull the colour of teeth. Whitening uses a gel that lifts stain out of the enamel. Done in the clinic, the dentist protects your gums first and controls the strength and the timing, which is the part over-the-counter kits cannot do.
A few honest points before you decide:
- Whitening works on natural enamel. Crowns, bridges, dentures and fillings do not change colour, so they may end up looking different to the teeth around them.
- How much the shade lifts differs from person to person, and some stains do not respond at all.
- Teeth are often sensitive for a day or two afterwards. That settles.
- Decay and gum problems are treated first. Whitening comes last, not first.
- We check your teeth first and tell you plainly whether whitening is worth it for you.
